Surface mount (spur)£80–£100

Electric shower (labour only)£120–£200
Mixer shower over bath£200–£320
Shower enclosure & tray (full)£350–£600

Outdoor tap installation £100–£200
Standard external tap£100–£160
With double-check valve£140–£200
Water regs require a double-check valve on outdoor taps to prevent backflow. Many customers don't know this — worth mentioning upfront.

Up to 10 radiators£350–£450
11–15 radiators£450–£600

Callout / first hour£80–£130
Half day (up to 4hrs)£180–£260

Internal door hang £80–£160
Door hang only (existing frame)£80–£110
With new lining and architrave£150–£220
Fire door (FD30, with intumescent)£160–£260

Skirting boards & architrave £10–£20 per metre
Skirting only (labour per m)£10–£15
Skirting + architrave (per m)£15–£22
Standard lounge (supply & fit)£350–£600

Full renovation (treads, spindles, newels)£1,500–£3,500

Floating floor (labour per m²)£12–£16
Glued down (per m²)£16–£22
Sub-floor prep (per m²)£6–£12

Flat-pack alcove fit (labour)£200–£350
Custom MDF built-in (per m wide)£600–£900

Half day£160–£240
Full day£300–£450

Common questions

These are market benchmarks, not your prices. Your actual prices should reflect your costs, your location, your reputation, and the complexity of the specific job. If your prices are consistently above this guide and you’re winning work, that’s a sign your positioning is right. If you’re losing on price, it’s worth checking whether your scope is clearly explained — clients often reject quotes because they don’t understand what they’re paying for, not because the price is wrong.
All prices on this page exclude VAT. If you’re VAT registered, you must add 20% to your quoted prices. Most domestic clients are surprised by this — it’s worth being clear in your quote whether prices are ex-VAT or inclusive. Commercial clients always expect ex-VAT pricing. If you’re under the VAT threshold (£90,000 turnover from April 2024), you don’t charge VAT and this is actually a competitive advantage on domestic work.
Most tradespeople charge a 10–30% mark-up on materials. This covers your time sourcing, your van stock risk, and returns if things go wrong. Be transparent with commercial clients — they’ll often ask for a split. On domestic jobs, most clients just want a total price and don’t mind a materials mark-up as long as the final number feels fair.
Speed and clarity. If your quote arrives the same day as the site visit, your conversion rate goes up significantly — the client is still in the mindset of wanting the job done. A clear, itemised quote with a professional layout builds trust instantly. Chasing quotes a week later rarely works. The best tool is getting the quote to them before you’ve left the street.
The lower end of most ranges reflects Scottish market rates. Edinburgh and Aberdeen skew slightly higher than the rest of Scotland. Glasgow is broadly mid-range. Rural areas often support higher rates due to reduced competition and travel time. The upper ends of ranges reflect London and South East pricing.
